Satellite Operations Engineer

Telesat Brazil is a wholly owned subsidiary of Telesat Canada based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is currently seeking a Satellite Operations Engineer to join their growing team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the engineering functions regarding the safe and effective working of the satellite(s);
  • Determine the satellite orbit, position and movement and prepare the required maneuvers;
  • Provide support and guidance to the staff in satellite operations, ensuring all issues related to the functioning and health of satellite subsystems and their operation products are properly approached;
  • Provide training for the Operations staff regarding the Satellite Operational Procedures and oversee the daily SCC operations to ensure the impacts on satellite operations are reduced;
  • Provide engineering analysis and knowledge for operational issues, act as second-level support, attend operational meetings and assist the technicians with the solution of technical issues and operational incident analyses;
  • Interact with other departments to ensure daily requirements are met and promote the integration of the Operations department;
  • Isolate and solve interferences in the satellite transponder, ensure all trouble reports received from customers are documented and take the necessary measures to solve them, aiming to minimize the interruptions;
  • Propose new operational procedures to optimize the operation processes;
  • Implement and maintain the computer systems and networks of Telesat Satellites Control in Rio SCC (software and hardware) and provide IT support related to SSOPS network computers and servers (Sat Ops).

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor Degree in Telecommunications or Electronic Engineering combined with a minimum of 4 years of experience in the satellite operations industry (ex. RF communications, satellite link design, systems engineering and ground station hardware);
  • Knowledge of:
  • satellite earth control systems, both hardware and software;
  • statistics, calculus, classic mechanics, celestial mechanics and computer programming;
  • transponder loading and capacity management.
  • Strong analytical competence, troubleshooting, decision making in real time, planning and organization;
  • Excellent communication in English, both oral and written;
  • Capacity to work either autonomously or as a team member.
