Satellite Communication Systems Engineer

The selected candidate will provide engineering support to the ITU and Regulatory division and specifically will support the integration of regulatory components into the design and modeling of the Telesat Lightspeed system. This requires close collaboration with the system design team to ensure that all relevant technical aspects of the Telesat Lightspeed system are well understood and reflect the regulatory constraints and procedures in place. The selected candidate will work with the system design and system modeling teams to efficiently implement and update new/existing algorithms and functionality.

Main Responsibilities

  • Participate in the software development of the System Model in Matlab environment, to implement functionality related to regulatory processes and constraints
  • Participate in the implementation of regulatory elements in the system resource management software of the Telesat Lightspeed system
  • Participate in the system design efforts to ensure that the system design and regulatory filings and constraints are compatible with each other, including testing and implementation of emission masks, launch to on-station mission design, antenna design, etc.
  • Carry out technical analyses to support coordination exercises and ITU-related work
  • Use version control software and release management system to ensure software integrity
  • Present work and findings to colleagues and management teams
  • Write technical documentation related to the above tasks

Education & Experience Required

  • Completed a Bachelor of Engineering program in Canada
  • Engineering program with courses related to the design of telecommunication systems preferred
  • Work experience (e.g. coop programs) in space and satellite communication industry preferred
  • Knowledge of satellite communication theory preferred
  • Exposure to courses related to communication theory and RF traffic management algorithms an asset

  • Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent and verified Matlab programming skills
  • Skilled in other programming languages (e.g. Python) or tools (i.e. STK) an asset
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal
  • Strong technical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Computers running Windows and Linux
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
