Senior Test Engineering Specialist

Telesat is looking for a Senior Test Engineering Specialist to work on the software applications that will control our new generation of Low Earth Orbit satellites.
 


Main Responsibilities

  • Gain deep understanding of the applications used to control the Telesat LEO constellation
  • Develop, review, and execute test cases
  • Characterize product defects and report in Jira
  • Work with development teams to seek solutions to bugs
  • Make recommendations to ensure best-in-class test process and tools
  • Ensure product under test meets technical, functional, performance and business requirements.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Operating Systems: Linux, Windows
  • Network Management Tools: Working knowledge of Network Management or Element Management, Putty/Supper, WinSCP
  • VMs: Kubernetes (POD) and Containers (Docker)  
  • Strong knowledge of Network Protocols
  • Traffic Generator: Spirent / IXia, Test Center, tcpdump and iPerf
  • Database: Postgres, MySQL,
  • Work Tools: Jira, Jama, Zephyr, Miro
  • Networking: Strong understanding of OSI-Layer, TCP, UDP, IP networking, routing protocols, and network optimization.
  • Design, configure, and maintain IP networks, VLANs, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), and security policies
  • Optimize network performance, monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Implement and manage NETCONF and gNMIc for automated network device configuration.
  • Develop and maintain YANG models for structured and standardized configurations.
  • gNOI for network operations, diagnostics, and state validation.
  • Data Formats: Hands-on experience with JSON, JSON IETF, XML, and YAML, PROTO, and REST APIs for data exchange and automation workflows.
  • Proficiency in YANG models, NETCONF, gNMIc, gNOI, and API-based automation.
  • Tools & Platforms: Experience with network controllers, telemetry, and monitoring tools      

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience programming with Python, especially for automation.
  • Ansible for network automation.
  • Kafka.
  • SATCOM: GEO/MEO/LEO (DVBS2/x, TDMA, ATDMA, SCPC). Hubs and Satellite Router: (Remotes).
  • Security Standard and tools: STIG (Qualys, Backtrack-5 and N-map)
  • Wireless Communications: Wi-Fi and Satellite, and earth station technologies, including the design of Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs), basics of GPS satellite-based amplification systems. 5G.
  • MEF
  • SR-MPLS
  • CCNA or CCNP certification
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Education and Experience

  • B.Sc in Computer Science or Bachelor’s in Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum least 14 years industry experience.
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
