Cloud Network Specialist

The Cloud Network Specialist will assist with the planning, building and operation of Cloud-based and on-premise Datacentre infrastructure. They will bridge gaps between corporate networks and Cloud-based networks. The Cloud Network Specialist will build and manage IT Infrastructure Systems as well as work on the network design for on-premise datacentres and cloud connectivity. 

Candidates must live in the Ottawa-Gatineau area or be willing to relocate to Ottawa-Gatineau. Relocation assistance will be provided to those who qualify. 

Candidates must be willing to be onsite in office three (3) days per week. 

Candidates must be able to qualify for CGP and Canadian Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance.

Main Responsibilities

  • Regularly evaluate cloud applications, designs, and best practices. 
  • Recommending, planning, implementing, and maintaining Azure networking solutions including hybrid networking, connectivity, routing, security and private access to Azure services. 
  • Deploy networking solutions using the Azure Portal and other methods including PowerShell, Terraform, Azure CLI and Azure templates. 
  • Collaborate with solutions architects, application developers, cloud administrators, cybersecurity and DevOps engineers to deliver Azure solutions. 
  • Monitor network performance, availability and security, and audit existing network designs. 
  • Manage and apply security best practices to the cloud environment. 
  • Deploy and maintain Cloud, WAN, LAN, Wireless, Voice and Video solutions and networks including servers, routers, switches, gateways and related hardware. 
  • Communicate and coordinate network maintenance, operational status, and downtime to users and Management as per established change management process and procedures. 
  • Development of metrics and monitoring to assist with SRE (Support) and Operations functions. 

Education & Experience Required

  • Must have network experience in Azure administration and experience in hybrid connections, and network security. 
  • 7 + years' experience in the implementation and operation of enterprise networking and data Centre environments including switches, load balancers and firewalls. 
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience with the deployment, management and automation of on-premises networking. 
  • Bachelor's degree in technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience. 
  • Experience in Kubernetes network environments is considered an asset. 
  • In addition to extensive Azure experience, additional experience troubleshooting other Cloud network environments such as AWS, and GCP would be considered an asset. 

Specialized Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Experience with building and running large scale, high-available and fault-tolerant network infrastructure. 
  • Experience with the design of highly redundant core networks. 
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols and firewall administration. 
  • Strong understanding and hands on experience in the administration of Linux. 
  • Experience leveraging scripts to build infrastructure (i.e. Bash, Python, Terraform). 
  • Detailed knowledge of network appliances (both hardware and virtual) including Cisco, Fortinet and/or Palo Alto. 
  • Familiarity with SRE concepts considered an asset. 

Decision Making & Supervision

  • In this role, the incumbent will have significant influence on the use and standardization of the on-premise network infrastructure for Telesat datacentres.
