Senior Network Management System Engineer (LS338)

As our Senior Network Management System (NMS) Engineer you’ll be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our network by designing, implementing and maintaining Operational Support Systems (OSS).  Your role will be instrumental in optimizing network performance, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring a seamless customer experience.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement and enhance Operational Support Systems and NMS applications to monitor and manage Carrier Ethernet and IP customer services and network resources, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Work closely with vendors to evaluate and implement new NMS solutions and stay up to date with industry trends.
  • Review and approve design and development solution documents, internal and external test strategies, plans and scripts.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and up to date documentation of NMS requirements, configurations, processes and procedures.
  • Implement real time network monitoring solutions to proactively identify and resolve network issues, minimizing downtime.
  • Investigate and resolve complex NMS implementation and network problems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement effective solutions.
  • Develop and maintain automated scripts and tolls to streamline network operations and improve efficiency.
  • Implement and enforce security best practices to protect network systems and data integrity.
  • Analyze network performance data and provide insights for capacity planning and network optimization.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 - 9 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design principles, and specifications for standardized and interoperable NMS.
  • Solid knowledge of NMS protocols and modelling languages such as: NETCONF/RESTCONF, gRPC/gNMI, gNOI, YANG, UML
  • Working experience in one of NMS tools and platforms such as Netcracker Digital OSS, ONAP, Ciena Blue Planet, Amdocs
  • Knowledge in Carrier Ethernet technologies and MEF Lifecycle Service Orchestration (MEF LSO APIs) framework.
  • Familiarity with TMForum Open Digital Architecture (ODA), Process Framework (eTOM), TMForum APIs, is a plus
  • Familiarity with CloudEvents, OpenMetrics, Openflow, ONF TAPI, and Information Framework (SID) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of MEF Lifecycle Service Orchestration (MEF LSO APIs) framework is an asset

Decision Making and Supervision

  • This role requires making recommendations and decisions which will have influence on the network operations and control solution of the Telesat Lightspeed network.
  • This role requires contributions as an individual and a team member.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid workplace model with three days a week in the office.
  • Occasional travel is anticipated.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain both Reliability and Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP) clearances.
